About Suzannah

From a young age I discovered a passion for creating things by hand, spending any free time I could in the workshops at school, working mostly with wood and clay until one day we were taught how to solder a ring. I found small-scale work so explorative and fun. Since that day, nearly a decade ago, I have been making jewellery.

My work today is still very much small-scale, working with small gemstones and delicate bands of gold and silver. A huge source of inspiration for me is time spent outdoors, particularly near the coast. I was born in and have spent most of my life in Devon so I have a particular affinity for this type of landscape and I often travel to other areas of the world, taking photos of natural rock patterns and ways in which the landscape has been naturally sculpted over time.

The greatest pleasure I take from my work is connecting with people and learning their stories. I aim to create timeless pieces that are so meaningful that they will be passed down through generations to come.

Training

Suzannah received two qualifications from the Birmingham School of Jewellery between 2014-2017. The first was a diploma in traditional silversmithing techniques followed by a degree in Jewellery Design for Industry of which she was awarded a First (BA Hons).

Suzannah worked for jewellery designer/manufacturers in both the UK and Australia before setting up her own business in 2018. She is now in her fourth year of business creating high quality one-of-a-kind pieces from her studio in Hampshire.

Where to find her work

Suzannah creates her work from her own studio/shop, Winchester Makers , which she shares with her jeweller friend Joanne Bowles. Together they have created a calm and welcoming space that invites it’s customers to browse handmade work by local artists with a consultation space dedicated to designing unique bespoke jewellery.

Responsible Sourcing and Sustainability

Suzannah works closely with several trustworthy suppliers, sourcing most of her stones from Sri Lanka. She deals only with suppliers who are in direct contact with the mines and cutters to ensure the stones are conflict free and as ethical as possible. Large stones and diamonds are always traceable and where possible, sold with a certificate. Suzannah is also able to source lab grown diamonds and coloured stones as a more ethical option.

Suzannah is eager to re-purpose or recycle her customer’s existing jewellery when designing a new piece of jewellery and this is always an option explored during the design process whether it is melting down metal or reusing loose stones.
